The School of Art at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a for a two-year, non-tenure track Instructor position. This position is a 9 – month appointment with a potential conversion to a 12 – month appointment based on the future needs of the program. This Instructor position will work as the technician in the Ceramics area. The position will teach a 1/1 course load, and will mentor graduate, post-bac and advanced ceramics students, and will participate in undergraduate, post-bac, and graduate critiques. The position will oversee ceramics facility, studio safety and maintain and oversee the purchasing of equipment, and will oversee graduate assistants and work-study personnel, as needed.
The position will manage purchasing, organizing, and maintaining an inventory of supplies, and will be a consistently present and active member of the studio community. The position will contribute positively to the area and department recruitment efforts, and will maintain an active research record.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
• MFA in Studio Art conferred by the time of appointment
• University teaching experience beyond graduate school
• Experience with the setup and maintenance of common studio equipment
• Demonstrated familiarity with ceramic processes, materials, and construction techniques
• Demonstrated excellent organizational and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a diverse range of students, faculty, and technicians
• Demonstrated active exhibition record
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience teaching Ceramics and Art Foundations courses
• Experience in studio safety practices
• Experience in studio management with supervision of graduate assistants and/or work-study personnel
• Experience in a broad range of fabrications methods including familiarity in woodshop and metal shop practices
• Experience with advanced ceramics technology, including 3D printing
• Experience with advanced ceramics technology, including mold making, 3D printing, and Rhino3D / Blender software
