This new position will be part of the New York State College of Ceramics Leadership team & the Division of Performing Arts to help raise awareness of the New York State College of Ceramics (NYSCC) and the Performing Arts Division (PAD) including its people, programs, and platforms at Alfred University to support university and NYSCC strategic goals and needs. It will be responsible for leading and coordinating detailed and effective media outreach and engagement strategies for the NYSCC and the PAD at Alfred University. The Director of Communications & Outreach will collaboratively plan, develop, implement the college’s communications strategy including digital marketing, marketing collateral and social media plans with the goal of driving undergraduate and graduate enrollment, as well as promoting the College & Division and faculty.
The New York State College of Ceramics comprises engineering programs (Biomaterials, Material Science, Glass Science, and Ceramic Engineering), Scholes Library and The School of Art and Design. This position is $67,000-$72,000 annually.
Job Responsibilities
• Understand the history, partnerships uniqueness of the NYSCC and Performing Arts Divisions and how they are integrated at Alfred University and with SUNY
• Attend all NYSCC leadership meetings and faculty meetings
• Coordinate with faculty, staff, and relevant offices (Admissions, Advancement, CDC and Marketing and Communications, etc.) to support communications and marketing of NYSCC + PAD
• Work to build brand identity, cohesive and consistent messaging for the PAD and NYSCC schools at Alfred
• Highlight work and achievements of students, staff, faculty, and alumni
• Manage and coordinate documentation (photo and video) of events
• Mentor teams of student workers (approximately 26 annually) as interns involved with photo/video, marketing, design, analytics, arts management, event promotion, and more through project work
• Organize and collaborate with internal and external events calendar
• Support and collaborate on press releases with the University Marketing and Communications team
• Assemble and distribute a weekly and monthly Arts & Engineering highlights email
• Post event information on campus and community platforms
• Coordinate with faculty, staff, students, and alumni to distribute information externally
• Attend regular meetings with MarCom team to coordinate messaging
• Develop Annual Report for NYSCC for the SUNY Chancellors office
• Facilitate updating and maximize use of AU website as it is working with divisions, programs galleries, museum, and IEA. Support faculty in the development of websites using streamlined AU template in compliance with UA branding standards and ADA
• Attend SUNY and other events as needed to promote the NYSCC
• Establish and foster relationships with the Deans, faculty and senior administrators and MarCom office to develop a & support comprehensive marketing plan at the undergraduate and graduate levels
• Create and execute various communications campaigns and programs using digital media, email marketing, marketing collateral and social media programs
• Effectively manage available resources from Marketing & Communications; collaborating to conceptualize, develop and implement various campaigns to increase enrollment, visibility and ranking
• Review and edit marketing content to ensure tone and style is consistent and complements the NYSCC and Performing Arts Division
• Provide coverage and support at events (over 200 annual)
• Manage relationships with external vendors
• Serve as collaborative communications counselor on crisis issues
• Keep current with best practices and standards in digital marketing
• Manage the NYSCC & PAD website and work with the University Office of Communications and Marketing to ensure content is current
• Work with faculty to publicize their research and increase their media mentions
Requirements
• Masters Degree required
• 6 years of Marketing, Communications and/or Public Relations preferred
• Working knowledge of demonstrated ability to apply standard theories, practices, principles and techniques related to communications in the media and marketing areas
• Thorough knowledge of web communication techniques and ability to effectively use web technology to achieve communication goals
• Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
• Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and modem English usage
• Ability to initiate and create correspondence independently
• Exceptional interpersonal and networking skills, strong consultative and persuasive skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products
• Proficient in digital media marketing strategies and applications
• Experience parsing lists, developing campaigns and evaluating campaigns
• Must be able to work occasional evenings or weekends to meet deadlines or attend events
• Strong problem-solving capabilities
• Analytical skills to solve problems and decide best methods to convey messages
• Comfortable working on and delivering messages through a variety of platforms
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects while working on competing deadlines
• Sensitivity to diversity, access, equity, and inclusion in communications
• Confidence and managerial skills to motivate student interns/assistants
• Ability to be self-motivated and work collaboratively in teams
