Natasja Alers is a visual artist based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She studied ceramics at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam and fine arts at the Weissensee KunstHochschule in Berlin, Germany. Her practice focuses on the inner world of the human body resulting in sculptural hybrid that reveal tension, vulnerability, and paradoxical feelings.
Alers plays with the viewer’s expectations. her work attracts visually, drawing you nearer, but it also gets under your skin. It is an exploration of contradictory moods of sensuality and unsettling feelings, a quest for the raw and ambiguous spaces in both body and psyche. By pushing and stretching the sculptured body from within, it raises tension and vulnerability in the material. The visceral glazes and the specific combination of colors refer to redefining the skin of the sculpture.
