Elke Sada: Selected works, 2014-2020

Hallstattpieces, 2017-2020

  • Vanellus vanellus (Hallstattpiece), 2018, 46 x 28 x 27 cm, Terra Nigra clay, coloured slips, glaze
  • Turtur (Hallstattpiece), 2020, 47 x 22 x 22 cm, Porcelain, Terra Nigra clay, coloured slips, glaze
  • Carduelis chloris (Hallstattpiece), 2017, 37 x 25 x 25 cm, Terra Nigra clay, coloured slips, glaze
  • Gallicolumba (left) und Coracias (right), 2020, 34.5 x 25 x 25 cm and 26 x 21 x 20 cm, Terra Nigra clay, coloured slips, glaze
  • Emberiza cirlus, 2017, 41 x 20 x 20 cm, Red clay, coloured slips, glaze

Hallstattpieces are expressive interpretations of ancient forms. To give the work a vital character I keep the traces of the hand building process visible. In its raw state I paint considerate yet forceful with vibrant colours inspired by the beauty of the plumage of birds.

Capriccio, 2015-2019

  • Capriccio Vase, 2019, 29 x 20 x 17 cm
  • Capriccio zwei Vasen, 2019, 23 x 7 x 7 cm / 23 x 8 x 8 cm
  • Capriccio XL-Bowl, 31 x 31 x 11 cm, 2015
  • Capriccio Vase, 37 x 18 x 18 cm, 2015
  • Capriccio Vase, 16 x 15 x 14 cm, 2019
  • Capriccio Wallpiece/Platter, 28 x 28 x 3 cm, 2017

CAPRICCIO

Brush strokes. Fields of colour.
Drops fall from brush. Scratch runs through.
Lines go up and down and around.

Capriccio – a fusion of my passion for abstract painting and my love for ceramics.

Materials used: White earthenware, coloured slips, glaze

Nests, 2014-2018

  • Jardin II (Nest), 2014, 25.5 x 31 x 24 cm, White earthenware, coloured slips, glaze
  • Salon Chinois (Nest), 2015, 26 x 27 x 25 cm, White earthenware, coloured slips, glaze
  • Salon Chinois (Nest), detail
  • mind-map (Nest), 2016, 22 x 19 x 22 cm, White earthenware, coloured slips, glaze
  • Extension (Nest), 2018, 32.5 x 27 x 24 cm, Terra Nigra clay, white earthenware, coloured slips, glaze
  • Extension (Nest)

The Nests are abstract constructs of interior and exterior spaces. The delicate structure refers to the idea of the desire to hide and look for shelter inside and offers a space to seclude oneself from the outside world. At the same time the Nests stand for the fragility of home and the tangibility of its architecture.
