Fleur Schell: Ark Angel, 2020
Clutching a pair of binoculars, a child kneels below a great floating ark. Searching into the distance like a sentinel, they know their role as steward is critical to the rewilding of our planet. Above on a crowded deck are endangered Australian animals.
“I see them all living at the edges of society, outside my world. They seem homeless, lost but still acutely aware of the giant shadow cast from my ark. I am sorry I frightened you. You are not a resource, you are my relatives. Like the soil, the rocks, the water, the air, the plants and you…we are all related. Climb aboard and together we shall follow the map of clearer understanding to the land of indigeneity.”
