Susan Phillips: Selected works, 2019

The four selected works form part of an ongoing series of small-scale sculptures.

The planar forms have been made from a grogged white porcelain clay. Design has been based on the interplay between abstract geometries and a direct use of void space. Combined making methods of slab rolling and throwing have been employed, whilst cutting and scraping has allowed for structure and surface texture to be defined. The 2 parts to the works remain separate. They are once fired. Polished with diamond pads and then slotted together.

It is my intention that the work retains a transparency of making process.
