Position Summary
Ceramics Faculty, Tenure Track, Department of Art & Design, Central Michigan University
Full-time, tenure track faculty position in Ceramics. This position begins August 22, 2022. Starting salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. An attractive benefits package including full medical and retirement contributions provided.
Responsibilities:
• Teach a range of courses in Ceramics from introductory to advanced undergraduate levels.
• Instruction includes handbuilt, wheelthrown, slab, and mold techniques, as well as clay mixing, glaze calculation and various types of kiln firing.
• Instruction of safe practices in all aspects of ceramics.
• Meet the university’s requirements for reappointment, tenure, and promotion, including creative scholarship and service.
Required Qualifications
• MFA in Ceramics. College level teaching experience as instructor of record.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
MFA in Ceramics with three years teaching and/or professional experience in Ceramics. Ability to teach foundations courses, such as Introduction to Drawing and Foundations Design.

Ceramics at Central Michigan University is housed in the Department of Art & Design. Our focus is on undergraduate education, offering BAA and BFA degrees. Our facilities include spacious and well-appointed facilities including
- Dedicated clay mixing facility with filtered ventilation, Soldner Pro Mixer and Peter Pugger.
- Dedicated glaze lab with filtered ventilation, laminar bench ventilation and glaze spray booth.
- Large, open instruction area including 23 Brent electric wheels, clay extruders, and slab roller.
- Indoor kiln room including 10 electric kilns (9 digitally controlled), 2 gas kilns and appropriate ventilation.
- Covered outdoor kiln yard including 2 wood kilns, 1 gas soda kiln, and 1 gas cart kiln.
