Position Description
The Department of Art at UC Irvine seeks applications for one part-time field researcher in the Junior Specialist series. We seek highly motivated applicants to assist in the fabrication of ceramic, concrete, and mixed media sculpture.
The successful applicant will support research by constructing armatures, preparing and mixing custom formulations for sculptural casting, preparing clay bodies, mixing ceramic glazes, and maintaining general studio organization.
Appointment is at 40% (hours variable per week; up to 16 hours per week) from July 11, 2022 through November 30th, 2022 (20 weeks, with possible extension).
Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Candidate must have at least a BA or BFA in Art (or equivalent). Candidate should be familiar with a wide range of sculptural processes including ceramic hand-building, welding, mold-making and casting. Candidate should have good organizational and time management skills; cleanliness and attention to detail, as well as a background and knowledge of the arts, specifically sculpture and ceramics.
