Applications are open for the Bizen Contemporary Ceramics Biennale 2024
The Bizen Contemporary Ceramics Biennale 2024 will provide an opportunity to reaffirm Bizen’s value as one of Japan’s leading ceramic art cities by inviting ceramic works from Japan and abroad.
This exhibition will explore the possibilities of ceramics, provide support for artists, and create opportunities for exchange, with the aim of promoting the inheritance and development of ceramic techniques and culture.
Organized by Bizen City, the biennale will open on October 19, 2024. The applications are due July 31, 2024. Apply here: Bizen Contemporary Ceramics Biennale 2024

Eligibility
• Applicants must be active in the field of ceramics and must be able to apply for the exhibition in the manner specified by the exhibition.
• Applicants must be able to deliver and retrieve their work in person. A domestic resident may be their representative if the applicant lives outside of Japan. Please get in touch with the organizers for more information.

Monday, June 3, 2024, 00:00~ (in-person entries from 8:30) to Wednesday, July 31, 2024, 23:59
(in-person entries until 17:15; mail entries must be postmarked by this date). All times are Japan Standard Time (UTC+09:00).
Awards and Prizes
• 1 Grand Prix: 5,000,000 JPY (~$31,000) + Certificate
• 1 Gold Award: 3,000,000 JPY (~$18,000) + Certificate
• 2 Silver Awards: 1,000,000 JPY (~$6,000) per person + Certificate
Other selected participants will be given an Honorable Mention Certificate.
Selection of Works
• First round: Image screening. Screening will be conducted using images. Please submit your application (1) online or (2) by mail or hand delivery.
• Second round: Artwork judging. Judging will be conducted based on actual works.
