Applications are open for the XV International Biennial of Ceramics of Manises 2022
1/ The Town Hall of Manises announces the XV INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL OF CERAMICS OF MANISES with the aim of promoting creation and innovation in the fields of artistic and design ceramics, and to promote the name of Manises (Spain) as a ceramic town.

2/ PARTICIPANTS
Artists from all over the world are welcome to participate, both individually and collectively. In the case of collective participation, the group will elect a legal representative, whose personal data will be included in the registration application.
A maximum of three works may be submitted to the contest in either of its two modalities, and they must be original and unpublished; In other words, they must not have participated in other contests and their elaboration should be carried out mainly with ceramic materials.
3/ CATEGORIES
A) Artistic ceramics: free creation.
B) Design of a ceramic product: whether industrial or handicraft, focused on the creation of works of a utilitarian and / or decorative nature, capable of being industrially reproduced for commercialization (the objective is to promote the ceramic industry).
4/ DIMENSIONS OF THE WORKS
In the speciality of Art: works that exceed two meters in any of their dimensions will not be admitted, nor those that do not reach 0.50 meters per unit. In the Design speciality, the measurements will have no restrictions.
5/ ENTRIES
Entries will be made via the web platform enabled for this purpose: mundoarti.com, where the organization will publish everything related to the contest.
Individual notifications will be made through the electronic address provided in the registration application; Phone calls will only be made in those cases where it is considered essential.
The registration period will end on November 15, 2021. Applications will consist of the registration form, the professional CV of the author or authors, a maximum of 3 digital photographs of each of the works, taken on a neutral background and with a maximum of 512 kB, plus a personal photograph of the author or authors, in JPG format and with an adequate resolution.
All the documentation that accompanies the registration requests will become part of the MCM Contemporary Ceramics Documentary Archive.
6/ SELECTION OF WORKS
The selection committee, based on the digital images and the documentation sent by the participant, will select the finalist works that will take part in the contest. The decision of said committee will be notified to the selected persons by email and by publishing the list on the contest web platform.
It is the responsibility of the authors to send the works to the Museum of Ceramics, Manises. The expenses derived from the shipment of the pieces will be borne by the contestants and the organization will only be responsible for receiving the submitted works. In the event that the works come from a country not belonging to the European Union, the participating artist will have to pay customs fees.
The selected works must be sent to the Museum of Ceramics, Manises before three p.m. February 14, 2022. Failure to comply with this deadline will result in their disqualification. Along with the works, the authors have the possibility to send instructions, images and all those guidelines that they consider necessary for the proper assembly of their piece.
The artists are obliged to use the correct packaging of their works in order to avoid breakage or damage during transport. The organization is not responsible for any damage that has occurred in the pieces as a result of their shipment, and therefore, will not assume the expenses derived from them.
The works received that show breakages of less than 5% of their volume will be restored by the Museum of Ceramics, Manises, and may be part of the exhibition and also appear in the catalogue, but will be out of competition and therefore, not eligible for a prize.
Although the works have been previously selected through the photographs sent by the artists, the jury reserves the right to exclude any work from the exhibition if, once physically seen, it does not meet the requirements requested in the bases.
The finalist works will be part of an exhibition that will take place from June 10, 2022, to September 10, 2022. They will also appear in the catalogue to be published on the occasion of the Biennial of Ceramics of Manises.
The organization will take the necessary security measures for the conservation of the works during the exhibition.
7/ SELECTION COMMITTEE
The evaluation of the works that seek to enter the competition phase will correspond to a selection committee.
This committee will be made up of experts and professionals of recognized prestige. The coordinator of the contest will act as secretary of this committee and will have voice and vote. 2. The verdict of the selection committee will be final.
8/ JURY
The evaluation of the works proposed for an award will correspond to a jury, which will be made up of experts and professionals of recognized prestige. The name of the jurors will be made public on the day of the awards ceremony. The coordinator of the contest will act as secretary of this jury with voice and vote.
The jury will issue a verdict that will be final and will propose to the instructive body the appropriate resolution to adopt from the issuance of the verdict, if necessary.
The jury may propose, if it deems it appropriate, the awarding of one or more special mentions in each of the modalities. Likewise, they may propose with the pertinent justification that the awards be declared void.
9/ RIGHTS OF THE AWARDED WORKS
The winning works will become the property of the Manises Town Hall and will de deposited in the Manises Ceramic Museum in order to be preserved. In the case of the winners in the Design speciality, the industrial property rights will continue to belong to their authors or legal owners.
All participants give the organization image rights for cultural dissemination.
10/ AWARDS CEREMONY
The award-winning artists undertake the commitment to attend the awards ceremony that takes place on June 10, 2022.
The organization will provide accommodation in a hotel in Manises if artists come from outside the Valencian Community or, even more so, if they come from a foreign country.
In the event that an award-winning artist is unable to attend, they must delegate to another person who, as a representative, will attend the event to collect the award.
11/ AWARDS
Prizes will be awarded to the specialities:
A) ARTISTIC CERAMICS PRESIDENT AWARD OF THE VALENCIAN GENERALITAT, endowed with €5,000.
DIPUTACIÓ DE VALÈNCIA AWARD, endowed with €3,000.
CITY OF VÉNISSIEUX AWARD for children under 35 years of age, endowed with €1,800.
MUSEO DE MONTELUPO FOUNDATION AWARD, artistic residence in the city of Montelupo.
B) CERAMIC PRODUCT DESIGN CITY OF MANISES PRODUCT DESIGN AWARD, endowed with €3,000
The obligations contained in article 14 of the General Subsidies Law will be applied to the awarded artists, as recipients of public subsidies.
The prizes will be subject to the corresponding tax withholding, according to current legislation.
The prizes and the beneficiaries will be published in accordance with the regulations of the National Subsidies Database and with the current regulations of the Manises Town Hall.
The winners in this edition will not be able to present work again, in either of the two specialities, until after one edition of the International Biennial of Ceramic of Manises.
The artists awarded with the first prize, both in the Art and Design categories, will be invited to exhibit their work at the next edition of the Biennial. Their pieces will be part of the parallel exhibitions and will appear in the catalogue corresponding to that edition.
12/ FINANCING
The budget for the 2022 call will amount to €60,000, which will be financed by the budget application 42210-22609, other miscellaneous expenses, Biennial of Ceramics, of the general budget of the Town of Manises for the year 2022.
13/ DATA PROTECTION
The personal data collected in the application will form part of a file owned by the Manises Town Hall and will be subject to the protection established by Organic Law 15/99, on the protection of personal data.
14/ PARTICIPATION
It is understood that the artists by participating in the contest, accept all the conditions that appear in the contest rules. Anything that is not specified or for any question that may arise from its interpretation, the organization reserves the express and exclusive competence to decide on this matter.
