The 51st Congress of the International Academy of Ceramics is taking place in Alcobaça and Caldas da Rainha, Portugal
The International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) and the Portuguese Association of Cities and Villages of Ceramics (AptCVC) are pleased to announce the 51st IAC Congress in Alcobaça and Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, to be held from September 16th to 20th, 2024.
The Congress will focus on ceramics in the Mediterranean world, from antiquity to the present. Two days of conferences form the core of the Congress, while visits to key museums, galleries, workshops, and production facilities provide a unique context to meet leading ceramic professionals from around the world. The first day will look at how, throughout history, the different peoples and cultures around the Mediterranean have influenced each other to produce innovative ceramic creations, with techniques that have lasted to this day. The second day will focus on the study of what is currently happening in the field of contemporary Mediterranean ceramics.
The conferences will be divided into Panel Discussions, Thematic Presentations and Breakout Sessions. The different formats aim to create a dynamic meeting with audience interaction, in-depth presentations, and snapshots of members’ activities. In addition to the rich conference programme, the Congress will feature 8 headline exhibitions, consisting of both national and international member exhibitions, such as “Mediterranean Ceramics and their Global Influence” and “Azulejos”, and traditional and contemporary local ceramic exhibitions. A number of satellite exhibitions will be held in both towns.
