Supermud Pottery, New York

Supermud Pottery opened 40 years ago as a working studio and gallery, and has been in its current sunny second story location on the Upper West Side since 1997. Ask a person about their experience at Supermud and they may start out talking about building with clay but they often end up using language that describes something deeper.

Supermud has been called a sanctuary and reprieve from daily stresses; a safe place to unleash creative energy and experiment without judgment, where one’s efforts are encouraged, nurtured and sincerely appreciated; It can be a second chance at something put aside when responsibilities left little room for anything else. It’s even been called a free day of therapy! No less important, it’s a place one can make rich and lasting friendships. Most of all, it’s great fun!

We offer classes in hand building, wheel throwing and glazing to adults and children of all skill levels. Classes consist of no more than 8 students to allow for individual attention from our highly skilled teaching staff. The relaxed ambiance of the studio encourages sharing of ideas and fosters creativity.

We provide clay and tools and offer 24hrs of free practice time each week. In addition to adult classes, we offer kids classes and more. For more experienced potters, Supermud Pottery rents studio space with 7-day access in a great community of potters.

Supermud’s gallery is a multi-use space that functions differently throughout the year ranging from in-house artist exhibitions to our student holiday show/sale in December.
